Very soon, my family and I will be taking a road trip for a much-needed vacation. It should be a season of excitement — packing bags, planning outfits, imagining new memories.
But instead of joy, I found anxiety creeping in.
My thoughts sounded like this:
What if our car gets stolen?
What if we get robbed?
What if our baby gets sick?
What if something terrible happens?
Rather than anticipating rest, I was rehearsing disaster.
The Weight of Trying to Protect Everything
If I am honest, the anxiety wasn’t random. It came from love. It came from responsibility. It came from the deep desire to protect my husband, my baby, and everything God has blessed us with.
But somewhere along the way, that desire turned into pressure.
I was subconsciously carrying a responsibility that was never mine to begin with — the responsibility of ultimate protection. I was trying to mentally guard our car, secure our safety, and control every possible outcome.
And the truth is: I cannot preserve my family or our possessions.
I do not have that power.
No amount of worry can secure what only God can sustain.
The Gentle Reminder from the Holy Spirit
This morning, in the quiet, the Holy Spirit gently interrupted my spiraling thoughts with one simple truth:
Everything I have belongs to God.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1).
That means:
- Our possessions belong to Him.
- My husband belongs to Him.
- My son belongs to Him.
- Even my own life belongs to Him.
“The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,” declares the Lord (Haggai 2:8).
Everything we have has come from His hand (1 Chronicles 29:12–14).
And if it belongs to Him, then He is more than able to preserve it.
A Prayer of Release and Trust
This is the prayer I prayed this morning:
Father God,
Your Word says the earth is Yours, and everything in it.
That means every we have is yours. Our home, our furniture, our money, our possessions — all Yours.
You said the silver is Yours and the gold is Yours.
Wealth and honor come from You.
Everything we have has come from Your hand.
So today I release fear.
Everything we have is because You allowed it.
If anything ever leaves our hands, it cannot leave Your sovereignty.
You are my provider — not a vehicle, not a possession, not an account balance.
You are my source.
Jesus said not to store up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal (Matthew 6:19–21).
Even if something earthly can be stolen, my true treasure cannot be touched.
And if You did not spare Your own Son but gave Him for me, You will certainly provide what we need (Romans 8:32).
Lord, I refuse to let anxiety rule me.
What You give, You can protect. What You allow to go, You can replace. And what truly matters — my inheritance in You — can never be taken.
Our possessions are in Your hands.
And because they are Yours, I do not have to live in fear of losing them.
You are my security, my peace, and my provider.
In Jesus’ Christ name,
Amen.
The Freedom of Letting God Be God
Here’s what changed for me: I realized I don’t have to hold the responsibility of guarding everything.
I am called to be wise.
I am called to be prayerful.
But I am not called to be sovereign.
God does not need my anxiety to accomplish His protection.
So instead of gripping tightly, I am learning to release.
Instead of bracing for loss, I am choosing to trust.
Because the One who owns it all is far more capable of keeping it than I ever could be.
What Belongs to God Is Safest With God
This vacation may still come with unknowns. Life always does. But I am no longer traveling under the weight of “what if.”
Everything we have — and everything we are — belongs to Him.
And what belongs to God is safest in His hands.
If you, like me, have been carrying fear over your family or your possessions, may this be your reminder: You are not the ultimate protector. You are the steward.
And the Owner of it all is faithful.
