Choosing Godly TV Content for My Child: A Christian Mother’s Perspective
As my son has grown, I’ve noticed an increasing interest in watching television. Like many young children, he is naturally drawn to music, movement, colors, and sound. However, this growing curiosity has made me even more intentional and prayerful about what he is exposed to.
As a Christian mother, I believe that what our children watch matters. Media has the power to shape beliefs, behaviors, and values—especially during the early, formative years. Scripture instructs us to “train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6), and I take that responsibility seriously, even when it comes to screen time.
My desire is to ensure that my son is exposed to godly content—content that teaches him about holiness, gently introduces the reality of sin in an age-appropriate way, and encourages him to adopt Christ-like character traits such as love, obedience, kindness, humility, and reverence for God.
The Challenge With Mainstream Children’s Content
One of the biggest challenges I’ve encountered is the lack of wholesome, faith-based children’s programming online. Much of today’s mainstream content is filled with violence, disobedience being celebrated, confusing messages, and themes that do not align with our Christian beliefs or the values we want to instill in our home.
This realization led me on a purposeful search for Christian alternatives—shows that are not only entertaining but also spiritually edifying.
Christian Streaming Platforms for Kids
Through this journey, I discovered several Christian streaming platforms that provide safe, Biblically grounded content for children:
- Minno – A Christian streaming service created specifically for kids
- Yippee TV – Offers Christ-centered children’s shows with strong Biblical values
- PureFlix – Provides Christian movies, series, and family-friendly children’s programming
These platforms make it easier for parents to feel confident about what their children are watching. Additionally, some trusted Christian shows can also be found on YouTube (with supervision), including:
- VeggieTales
- Owlegories
- Superbook
- Cubekins
- Friends and Heroes
Advise to Christian Parents
Television itself is not the enemy—but unfiltered exposure can be harmful, especially for young, impressionable hearts. As parents, we are called to be gatekeepers, discerning what we allow into our homes and into our children’s lives.
My prayer is that we raise children who not only recognize God but love Him, fear Him, and desire to walk in His ways—even from a young age.
With prayer, discernment, and intentional choices, it is possible to use media in a way that supports, rather than undermines, our faith and values.
