This Christmas season, I am intentionally slowing down to reflect on the wonder and glory of the Word becoming flesh—God in the flesh.
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us…” (John 1:14)
The miracle of Christmas is not only that Jesus was born, but that God chose to enter humanity. He did not save us from a distance. He came close. He stepped into our world, clothed Himself in human weakness, and walked the same dusty roads we walk today.
What stands out most to me in this revelation is what it means for my everyday life. Because Jesus lived as a human, He understands my reality. He has walked in my shoes. He knows what it is to feel pain and disappointment, to experience joy and sorrow, to face temptation, exhaustion, and rejection. Nothing about my life is foreign to Him.
This truth makes it easier for me to come to Him honestly. I can approach Him without fear or pretense, knowing that He understands me without judgment. He is not detached from my struggles; He is deeply acquainted with them. Christmas reminds me that I serve a God who knows—not just in theory, but by experience.
Jesus Christ is my Friend
I am reminded of the hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” For me, these words are not poetic sentiment—they are reality. Jesus truly is my best friend because He gets me. Our friendship is not fragile or conditional; it is a covenant relationship, sealed by love and sustained by grace. It is this relationship that feeds and sustains every area of my life.
From this place of intimacy, I find myself echoing the words of John and calling myself “the one whom Jesus loves.” Not out of pride, but out of assurance. The God who became flesh came for me, walks with me, and remains committed to me.
This is the heart of Christmas: Emmanuel—God with us. God who understands us. God who loves us.
